Helping Victims Heal From Trauma

Psychological Trauma Center Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Is sponsoring a special screening for the community free of charge of actor Jo Pantoliano's award winning documentary "NO KIDDING! ME 2!!" Monday, June 20, 2011 7 - 9 p.m. in the Harvey Morse Auditorium, South Tower Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos, Memento, and The Matrix) has directed this empowering documentary to shed light on what nearly 100 million Americans suffer from the impact of mental illness. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with mental health professionals. Recommended for: Parents and their teens, mental health professionals and for educators.

The Psychological Trauma Center, affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, targets children who are at-risk emotionally and academically due to traumatic situations and stressors that have impacted them, causing them to have a difficult time learning. Often, these children have poor self-image and experience problems getting along with others. The Share and Care Program provides emotional nurturing, self-esteem building and a professional counselor who can help them become successful students and citizens.

- Currently serving 23 schools (3 high schools, 4 middle schools, 16 elementary schools)
- Providing services to schools since 1981

- A school-based mental health program
- A pull-out program
- 12 week curriculum

- Focus on social skills
Goals of Share and Care
- To help the student deal with personal issues that are preventing them from succeeding in class
- To help the student develop positive coping skills to deal with anger, violence and/or stress
- To help the student become a healthy, positive learner and member of the school community
- To consult with teachers/administrators and parents to benefit the child
